Statoil is international gas and oil company and the biggest gas retailer in Estonia.
 
  Challenge

Statoil was looking for an attractive consumer game idea for all the people filling up the tank at one of their gas stations.

They wanted a game, where there are many smaller and larger prizes and the prize is drawn before the customer leaves the station.

Statoil had found, that giving out coupons and stickers was one way to handle this but printing them was expensive and a large percent of customers tended to lose the coupons before collecting enough of them to get a prize.
 
  Solution



Instead of the old sticker system we designed and introduced a technical solution for drawing prizes via SMS in a matter of seconds. Whenever a customer bought over 30 litres of gas he could send the serial number of the bill over SMS, and within 2 seconds he would receive a message letting him know if he had won or not. Prizes were collected at the spot.
 
  Results

On the first week of the campaign, the number of people participating exceeded Statoil's optimistic predictions based on previous campaigns over two times.
